New Delhi, Sep 7 (PTI) State-owned Bank of India (BOI) on Tuesday said it has entered into a co-lending arrangement with MAS Financial Services for MSME loans. The tie-up comes on the occasion of the bank’s 116th Foundation Day.

Co-lending was introduced by the RBI to increase the credit flow to the unserved and underserved sector by utilising the nimble-footed NBFC coverage to the informal sector.

BOI will leverage the reach of NBFC to build an MSME portfolio, Atanu Kumar Das, Managing Director & CEO, Bank of India said in a release.

Celebrating Foundation Day across all its 10 national banking group (NBG) offices, 59 zonal offices, 5,084 domestic and 23 overseas branches, and 5,323 ATMs, Das expressed gratitude to all the stakeholders.

The bank marked the special occasion by celebrating ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ and pledged to continue serving the nation and its citizens.

On the occasion, the bank unveiled various new schemes for farmers and undertook several initiatives, such as tree plantation, extending financial help to 8,718 girl children towards their education and customer outreach programmes, among others.

BoM tops PSU banks in terms of loan, saving deposit growth in Q1, BFSI News, ET BFSI

New Delhi: State-owned Bank of Maharashtra (BoM) has emerged as the top performer among public sector lenders in terms of loan and savings deposit growth during the first quarter of the current financial year. The Pune-headquartered lender recorded 14.46 per cent increase in gross advances at Rs 1,10,592 lakh crore in April-June period of 2021-22, as per the published data of BoM.

It was followed by Punjab & Sind Bank which posted 10.13 per cent growth in advances with aggregate loans at Rs 67,933 crore at the end of June 2021.

When it came to deposit mobilisation, BoM with nearly 14 per cent growth was a notch behind Punjab and Sind Bank, while the country’s largest lender State Bank of India recorded 8.82 per cent rise.

However, in absolute terms SBI’s deposit base was 21 times higher at Rs 37.20 lakh crore as against Rs 1.74 lakh crore of BoM.

Current Account Savings Account (CASA) for BoM saw 22 per cent rise, the highest among the public sector lenders, during the quarter.

As a result, CASA was 53 per cent or Rs 92,491 crore of the total liability of the bank.

Total business of BoM increased 14.17 per cent to Rs 2.85 lakh crore at the end of June 2021.

For the first quarter, BoM’s standalone net profit more than doubled to Rs 208 crore as against Rs 101 crore in the same period a year ago.

The bank’s asset quality improved significantly as the gross bad loans or gross non-performing assets (NPAs) dipped to 6.35 per cent of gross advances by the end of June 2021 as against 10.93 per cent by the end of first quarter of the previous fiscal.

In absolute terms, gross bad loans stood at Rs 7,022 crore at the end of June 2021, lower than Rs 10,558.53 crore recorded in the same period a year ago.

Net NPAs nearly halved to 2.22 per cent (Rs 2,352.75 crore) from 4.10 per cent (Rs 3,677.39 crore).

RBI gives Ind Bank Housing time till Dec to complete revival process, BFSI News, ET BFSI

The Reserve Bank has asked Ind Bank Housing Ltd to complete its revival process by the end of December and submit a board-approved plan. State-owned Indian Bank is the promoter of Ind Bank Housing with 51 per cent stake in the company.

“On our request, RBI has given us time up to December 31, 2021 for completing the revival process of the company and to submit board approved plan for revival,” Ind Bank Housing said in a regulatory filing on Friday.

The company had reported a net loss of Rs 6.36 lakh in the quarter ended June 2021, which widened from Rs 4.38 lakh loss in the same period a year ago.

The company’s total revenues were Rs 6.39 lakh during the period, down from Rs 8.33 lakh.

In its annual report 2019-20, Ind Bank Housing said it has put in place an aggressive recovery mechanism for realisation of existing home loans.

As of March 31, 2020, it had only one employee on direct rolls, while others were engaged on contractual basis or deputed from the parent organisation, it said in the report.

In 2020-21, the company had a net loss of Rs 18.87 lakh. During FY20, the company had a profit of Rs 2.74 crore. After appropriating the profit, the accumulated losses of the company stood at Rs 134.83 crore as at March 31, 2020 as against Rs 137.58 crore a year ago, it said in its annual report.

Ind Bank Housing said it is making efforts for revival of its operations and has prepared a road map for restructuring of capital and restarting of lending operations. However, the efforts have been delayed due to the COVID-19 situation, it said. PTI KPM ABM ABM

Interference by the apex court in the matter at this stage may not be necessary as the high court has already taken it up on the judicial side, the bench said.

NBCC Ltd on Tuesday said that banks have shown interest in providing funds to complete the stalled projects of defunct Amrapali group. On July 23, 2019, the Supreme Court ordered cancellation of the registration of Amrapali Group under real estate law RERA. The court had directed NBCC to complete the stalled projects of the group.

In a statement, NBCC said that the monitoring committee appointed by the Supreme Court convened a meeting on Monday with nationalised and private banks to discuss the financing for Amrapali Projects. NBCC’s Executive Director was present in the meeting.

“Post MoU signing of Ld Court Receiver with SBICAP Ventures Ltd for funding 6 Amrapali Projects at Noida and Greater Noida last week, other reputed banks have shown interest in funding the stalled Amrapali Projects,” NBCC said in a statement.

More than 42,000 homebuyers, who have been waiting for possession of their dream homes, will be benefited by this progressive initiative, it added.

Currently, the NBCC is facing execution hurdles due to slow inflow of cash which is expected to get sorted soon.

“All the credit of these initiatives taken for completing the works of erstwhile Amrapali group projects goes to the Supreme Court of India, appointed Committee members and the team of NBCC collectively working to end the long wait of the suffered homebuyers,” the statement said.

Last week, NBCC informed that the SBICAP Ventures Ltd has agreed to provide Rs 650 crore for completing six stranded projects of erstwhile Amrapali Group in Uttar Pradesh.

SBICAP Ventures Ltd has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Court Receiver for providing Rs 650 crore for the six stalled projects. The MoU will pave the way for completion of flats of 6,947 home buyers.

The six projects are — Silicon City-1, Silicon City-2, Crystal Homes, Centurian Park- Low Rise, O2 Valley and Tropical Garden across Delhi-NCR.

SBICAP Ventures Ltd manages the central government-sponsored Special Window for Affordable and Mid-Income Housing (SWAMIH) Fund that is to be utilised for completion of stalled real estate projects.

In July 2019, the Supreme Court mandated NBCC to complete various stalled real estate projects in Noida and Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh. These projects are currently under the Receiver appointed by the apex court. PTI MJH RAM MJH DRR DRR

Bank of Baroda clocks Q1 profit of Rs 1,209 crore, BFSI News, ET BFSI

New Delhi, State-owned Bank of Baroda (BoB) on Saturday reported a standalone profit of Rs 1,208.63 crore during the quarter ended June 2021, helped by decline in bad loans provisioning. The bank had posted a net loss of Rs 864 crore in the same quarter a year ago.

Total income moderated marginally to Rs 20,022.42 crore from Rs 20,312.44 crore in the same quarter a year ago, BoB said in a regulatory filing.

The bank’s asset quality improved with the gross non-performing assets (NPAs) falling to 8.86 per cent of the gross advances as on June 30, 2021, from 9.39 per cent by the end-June 2020. However, net NPA ratio rose to 3.03 per cent from 2.83 per cent as on June 30, 2020, the bank said.

As a result, total provisions and contingencies for the quarter eased to Rs 4,111.99 crore from Rs 5,628 crore a year ago.

Provisioning Coverage Ratio including floating provision stood at 83.14 per cent as on June 30, 2021.

A penalty of Rs 41.75 lakh has been imposed on the bank by Reserve Bank of India for the quarter ended June 30, 2021, it said.

As per the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) circular, the bank has opted to provide the liability for frauds over a period of four quarters, it said.

Accordingly, the carry forward provision as on June 30, 2021 is Rs 349.45 crore which is to be amortised in the subsequent quarters by the bank, it said.

PNB expects recovery of Rs 14,000 cr in 3 qtrs; Rs 4-6K cr profit in FY22, BFSI News, ET BFSI

New Delhi, Aug 3 (PTI) State-owned Punjab National Bank (PNB) on Tuesday said it expects a recovery of Rs 14,000 crore from bad loans during the three quarters and earn a profit of Rs 4,000-6,000 crore in 2021-22 aided by rationalisation of expenses along with robust recovery. Controlling the expenditure has got multiple dimensions, one of them is rationalisation of branches, PNB managing director S S Mallikarjuna Rao told reporters.

“We have succeeded in rationalising more than 500 branches. We are expecting to rationalise 1,000 branches by March 2022, which will give huge amount of reduction in the operational expenditure,” he said.

Currently, the bank has about 10,641 branches across the country.

On the recovery side, he said, the bank expects Rs 5,000-5,200 crore from NCLT cases by March 2022. This will help reduce bad debt or non-performing assets by about Rs 12,000 crore.

“In normal recovery we generally get around Rs 3,000 crore per quarter. So, another Rs 9,000-10,000 crore we are expecting in normal recovery,” he said.

Rao exuded the confidence that the bank should earn annual profit between Rs 4,000 crore and Rs 6,000 crore aided by strong recovery and cost rationalisation during the current financial year.

“Guidance for 2021-22 would be Rs 4,000-6,000 crore…at the balancesheet level the cost of deposits have been reduced drastically, cost to income ratio has been reduced, yield on advances has come down,” he said.

Besides, recoveries from NPAs where provision coverage ratio is 80 per cent, these will be write back, he said.

“So 50 per cent of profit will be contributed by the write back during the year. So profit would come from mix of cost rationalisation and write back,” he said.

With regard to further capital raising, he said, if you look at the capital adequacy ratio, it is 15.19 which is adequate to take care of 8-10 per cent credit growth.

“However, PNB, being a big bank, in order to insulate itself from the capital requirement for future and not to depend on the government, we will definitely look at discuss about it one month or so and take a call on that,” he said.

This exercise would be with a view to generating buffers not for meeting business requirement, he said. Currently, the government holds 73.1 per cent in the bank.

On the perceived threat on the telecom sector due to the AGR order of the Supreme Court, he said all the telecom players are requesting the government to look at it. “So the developments in the last few days are areas of concern for the banking industry,” he said.

PNB’s exposure is not very high that is going to impact the balance sheet, he said, adding “however, we will be definitely discussing with other bankers to see what kind of action we need to take going forward considering the statement of K M Birla only yesterday.”

The Supreme Court last month said it would pass orders on applications filed by telecom majors-Vodafone Idea, Bharti Airtel and Tata Tele Services Ltd-raising the issue of alleged errors in calculation in the figure of adjusted gross revenue (AGR)-related dues.

The apex court in September last year had given 10 years time to telecom service providers struggling to pay Rs 93,520 crore of AGR-related dues to clear their outstanding amount to the government.

Rao also said PNB will divest its stake in Canara HSBC OBC Life Insurance Company in the next 12 months.

The city-headquartered state-owned bank had acquired a stake in the life insurer post amalgamation of the erstwhile Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC) into itself last fiscal year. The erstwhile OBC held 23 per cent stake in the life insurer, which by virtue of amalgamation has come to PNB.

Canara Bank owns 51 per cent stake, while HSBC Insurance (Asia Pacific) Holdings Ltd as a foreign partner owns 26 per cent.

It is also a promoter of another insurer PNB Metlife Insurance, owning the highest stake of 30 per cent. The company was set up in 2001, in which other shareholders include US-based Metlife with 26 per cent, Elpro (21 per cent) and M Pallonji & Company (18 per cent).

As per extant insurance guidelines of Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (Irdai), one promoter cannot hold more than 10 per cent stake in two insurance ventures. PTI DP MR MR
