Punjab National Bank on Monday said there had been no breach of its systems or pilferage of personal data of customers and account holders. The state-run lender, in a statement, said it had thoroughly checked its systems and that the reported attempt of perpetrator was monitored and checked.

PNB has implemented stringent security controls in all our ICT (information and communications technology) systems,” said the bank, adding that it has deployed data leak prevention solutions which prevent any unauthorised data to be sent through email.

Cyber security firm CyberX9 had said that a vulnerability in the server of Punjab National Bank exposed the personal and financial information of its about 180 million customers for about seven months and that the bank fixed the vulnerability when CyberX9 notified PNB through CERT-In and NCIIPC.

PNB earns Rs 170 crore in FY21 by levying charges on non-maintenance of minimum balance, BFSI News, ET BFSI

State-owned Punjab National Bank (PNB) collected nearly Rs 170 crore by levying charges on customers for not maintaining the required minimum balance in their accounts during 2020-21, according to RTI information. The lender’s revenue earned from such charges stood at Rs 286.24 crore in 2019-20.

Banks levy such charges on a quarterly basis during a fiscal year.

The quarterly average balance (QAB) in the April-June period of 2020-21 stood at Rs 35.46 crore (both on savings and current account); while no such charges were levied in the second quarter of FY21.

In the third and fourth quarters, the QAB non-maintenance charges stood at Rs 48.11 crore and Rs 86.11 crore, respectively, PNB said in a reply to Right to Information (RTI) sought by Madhya Pradesh-based social activist Chandra Shekhar Gaur.

Also, the lender earned Rs 74.28 crore in the form of ATM transaction charges during the year. In the preceding 2019-20, it was Rs 114.08 crore.

The bank said it waived the ATM transaction charges during the first quarter of 2020-21 vide an IBA letter and government guidelines.

In response to a query on the number of operative and inoperative accounts, the lender said 4,27,59,597 accounts were dormant as of June 30, 2021, while a total of 13,37,48,857 accounts were operative.

IIFL Home Finance signs pact with PNB for co-lending, BFSI News, ET BFSI

IIFL Home Finance on Friday signed an agreement with Punjab National Bank (PNB), the country’s second largest public sector bank, for co-lending.

IIFL Home Finance expects to grow their loan books by 25 per cent with this association. The loan sourcing and servicing will be managed by IIFL Home Finance and 80 per cent of the loan will be provided by PNB.

IIFL Home Finance will service customers through the entire loan cycle — from sourcing, documentation and collection to loan servicing.

This is the fourth agreement signed by IIFL Home Finance with banks. Earlier this year, it signed agreements with ICICI Bank, Central Bank of India and Standard Chartered Bank.

IIFL Home Finance has disbursed loans totalling Rs 170 crore under these arrangements so far.

Government extends the tenure of Canara Bank, Bank of India executive directors by two years, BFSI News, ET BFSI

The government has extended the tenure of two executive directors of Canara Bank and Bank of India for two years, the state-run lenders said on Monday. Canara Bank in a regulatory filing said that the central government has extended the term of office of A Manimekhalai, Executive Director, for a period of two years beyond her currently notified terms that expires on 10 February 2022, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Bank of India in a separate filing said that the term of office of P R Rajagopal, Executive Director, has been extended for a period of two years, beyond his currently notified term or until further orders, whichever is earlier. His current term was to expire on February 28, 2022, the bank said.

The banks said the government informed them about the extension given to these executive directors through notifications on August 26, 2021.

The government last week extended the term of executive directors of various public sector banks. It also extended the terms of MD & CEOs of Punjab National Bank and Bank of Maharashtra.
