HDFC Bank aims to regain lost market share in 1 year after RBI lifts credit card ban, BFSI News, ET BFSI

HDFC Bank is looking at winning back the market share by number of cards in the next one year, a senior official said on Monday. The largest private sector lender by assets was allowed to issue new credit cards by the RBI last week, over eight months after being banned from doing so due to concerns over repeated technological outages.

Parag Rao, its group head for payments and consumer finance, digital banking and IT told reporters that the bank has set some milestones for itself as it seeks to re-enter the market.

The first is to achieve monthly new credit card sales to 3 lakh, the number right before the ban in November 2020, Rao said, adding that the same will be achieved in three months.

Two quarters after that, it aims to take the monthly new card sales to 5 lakh a month, Rao said, adding that in three to four quarters from now, it plans to regain the market share by number of cards.

Rao added that during the ban, the bank lost its market share by number of cards but was able to maintain the market share on initiatives taken to prod users to spend.

It can be noted that as per data, the bank’s market share by number of cards had come down by around 2 percentage points to under 25 per cent, as smaller rivals including ICICI Bank and SBI Cards seized the opportunity to close the gap.

After the lifting of the ban, HDFC Bank had spoken about coming back with a bang.

Rao said spends on credit cards are 60 per cent higher in April-June quarter on its card portfolio.

The bank will depend on its internal set of customers to grow the number of cards and is also looking at partnering with key players like Paytm announced earlier in the day, to increase its sourcing.

Rao also said that the conservative approach on the credit front will continue for the bank even as it goes aggressively on the new business sourcing.

The bank scrip was trading 0.57 per cent up at Rs 1,522.95 a piece on BSE at 1318 hrs as against gains of 0.43 per cent on the benchmark.

From Amazon to Zomato, a big crowd at RBI doors for payment aggregator licence, BFSI News, ET BFSI

[ad_1]

Read More/Less

Mumbai: A slew of companies harbouring fintech ambitions have made a beeline to the Reserve Bank of India to become licensed Payment Aggregators (PAs) under the central bank’s upcoming regulatory regime for non-bank payment providers.

Firms that have applied for authorisation or in advanced stages of submitting their proposals to the RBI include the Tata group, Amazon, Reliance Industries, Dutch payments startup Adyen, Paytm, BharatPe, PhonePe, CC Avenue, Razorpay, Cred, Zomato, PayU, Worldline, Pine Labs and CAMSPAY, sources involved in the diligence process told ET.

At least 30 firms are learnt to have submitted their proposals, sources said, indicating that the number of applicants could increase before the September 30 deadline for existing and new non-bank firms to apply.

The firms that will be authorised to operate as PAs in India will be under the direct purview of RBI in rendering payment services to merchants, in a step that many industry insiders said would lead towards a more standardised and regulated payments ecosystem.

“For long, the operations of PAs in India have been seen as a blind spot for regulations,” said a payments industry insider. “RBI’s PA/PG rules in this regard were introduced to ensure a standard for those firms offering payment service to merchants.”

“There is a feeling that any internet firm with a mass consumer base will be applying for a PA licence as the eligibility barrier is low and missing out on approval can limit any future expansion in offering fintech services,” the source said.

Under the new rules, any firm acquiring merchants would compulsorily need RBI approval to operate as a licensed PA, the source added.

The central bank’s new Payment Aggregator/Payment Gateway guidelines – introduced formally in March 2020 – mandate that only firms approved by RBI can acquire and offer payment services to merchants. Regulated banks do not need any separate approvals.

As per RBI rules, the eligibility criteria for a firm applying for PA authorisation is a minimum net worth of Rs 15 crore in the first year of application and going up to Rs 25 crore by the second year.

The firm also must fulfil ‘fit and proper’ criteria as well as be compliant with global payment security standards under PCI DSS, an information security protocol maintained by payment firms across the world.

“PhonePe has been operating as a Payment Aggregator, offering payment services to merchants on our network. In line with the RBI guidelines, we would be applying for the PA licence to continue offering payment services to our merchant partners,” a PhonePe spokesperson said.

According to Ramesh Narasimhan, Head – Digital Commerce, Worldline India, “Ingenico ePayments India – a Worldline brand, is in the process of directly applying for the Payment Aggregator license well before the deadline as we remain committed to deepening the reach of online payment solutions in India.”
Spokespersons for Adyen, Razorpay and Cred did not offer comment. Other firms cited earlier in the story did not respond to ET’s email. RBI also did not comment.

Newly listed Zomato said in exchange disclosure that it had already incorporated a wholly owned subsidiary to handle digital payments and payment gateway services.

Sources told ET that many leading e-commerce marketplaces, global payment firms, existing PGs and domestic consumer internet firms are also in line to apply for authorisations.

ET could not independently confirm these names.

“There is almost a sense that RBI is inundated with the rush of applications,” a second source aware of the matter said. “The indication has been that RBI will take a ‘First In, First Out’ approach in scrutinising different proposals. This means that the overall scrutiny process is likely to take a few months.”

“The regulator will also allow firms to continue their operations until they communicate the fate of the respective proposals. For a PA operating in India whose application has been turned down, the expectation is that RBI will offer a window to wind down its operations,” the source, who is the chief executive of one of the firms applying for authorisation, told ET.

RBI defines PAs as entities that facilitate e-commerce sites and merchants to accept various payment instruments from the customers for completion of their payment obligations, without the need for merchants to create a separate payment integration system of their own.

PGs are defined as entities that provide technology infrastructure to route and facilitate processing of an online payment transaction without any involvement in handling of funds.

The motive of the new PA/PG guidelines could also be to have a better supervisory control over payment operations of internet and e-commerce firms in India.

The applicability for PA/PG authorisation could be made ‘on-tap’ after the initial set of approvals, a third source said.

WhatsApp brings new ‘payments backgrounds’ feature in India, BFSI News, ET BFSI

[ad_1]

Read More/Less

Designed in partnership with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), on the Unified Payment Interface (UPI), the payments feature on WhatsApp enables transactions with over 227 banks.

In a bid to strengthen its payment services offering in India, instant messaging platform WhatsApp has introduced ‘Payments Backgrounds feature on the platform.

“Built for India, this new feature is relevant, exciting, and memorable as it helps people easily convey a feeling along with sending money,” said a company statement on Tuesday.

Designed in partnership with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), on the Unified Payment Interface (UPI), the payments feature on WhatsApp is an India-first, real-time payment system that enables transactions with over 227 banks, it said.

Manesh Mahatme, Director of WhatsApp Payments said: “WhatsApp is a safe space where people share their thoughts and feelings with their friends and family. With Payments Backgrounds, our effort is to bring excitement to everyday payments through WhatsApp and enable our users to express themselves if they wish, through a range of emotive themes denoting celebrations, affection, warmth or fun.”

“We believe that sending and receiving money is so much more than just a transaction. Often, it’s the stories behind the exchanges that are priceless. We look forward to creating more features and functionalities and continue making payments on WhatsApp an interesting and interactive experience,” he added.

Conversations around payments

Conversations involving payments are often imagined to be simply transactional. WhatsApp has created this thematic range of artful expressions to complement sending payments on birthdays, holidays, or for gifts and travel, the company said.

As per WhatsApp, the core idea of this feature update is to create a more personalised experience for the sender as well as the receiver by adding an element of expression when friends and family exchange money.

“Whether it is friends splitting the bill after a meal, sending money to near and dear ones as a token of your love or gifting your sister on the occasion of Rakshabandhan, payment backgrounds make sending money personal and brings alive the story behind every payment,” the statement said.

WhatsApp has been trying hard to make a mark in the already crowded online payments segment in India with strong incumbents including Paytm, Google Pay, PhonePe, Amazon Pay already having consolidated their position.

Oyo aims for India IPO in 2021, BFSI News, ET BFSI

[ad_1]

Read More/Less

Oyo Hotels and Homes will soon join the list of startups launching an initial public offering (IPO) in the country.

Internally, the hospitality company has set a timeline of September for filing its IPO prospectus and wants to be a public company before the calendar year ends, people aware of the development said.

Oyo has initiated talks with multiple bankers including JP Morgan, Citi and Kotak Mahindra Capital to manage its public issue, they said.

“Work has begun and some bankers have been finalised,” a person aware of the matter told ET. “They are aiming to file the draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) by September.”

Another person said, “Directionally, they are moving towards an IPO but many details are yet to be finalised, including the offer size.”

A spokesperson of Oyo declined to comment.

Oyo is seeing a revival in business in markets such as India and Europe as the number of Covid-19 cases have been falling and vaccination rate improving. Oyo told ET last month that it was seeing stronger recovery in Europe on the back of higher vaccination rates and that India would also reflect the same once more people are vaccinated, at least once.

Currently, 43% of Oyo’s revenue comes from India and Southeast Asia while 28% comes from Europe and the rest from other global markets. The company was forced to cut down its operations in markets like the US and China amid the virus outbreak. In India, it fired a chunk of its workforce as Covid-19 hit its business hard.

Its IPO plans come at a time when the Indian public market seems to be bullish on startup IPOs following Zomato’s public offer.

Paytm, PolicyBazaar, Nykaa, Mobikwik and CarTrade are in various stages of going public in India after having filed their DRHP over the last few months.

ET had last month reported that Oyo had secured a $660-million debt financing from global institutional investors to service its existing loans. Wall Street investors like Fidelity, Citadel Capital Management and Varde Partners have subscribed to Oyo’s TLB, also referred to as Term B Loan.

The hotel aggregator is also in talks with Microsoft for financing.

IPO-bound Paytm seeks shareholders’ nod to double ESOP pool, BFSI News, ET BFSI

[ad_1]

Read More/Less

Fintech startup Paytm is planning to more than double its employee stock ownership plan (ESOP) pool, as per a letter sent to its shareholders for an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) scheduled for September 2, ahead of its much-anticipated IPO.

The Noida-based firm has proposed to its shareholders an increase in the existing ESOP pool to 61,094,280 equity options at a face value of Re 1 each from the current 24,094,280 equity options. The fintech company has also sought approval of founder and chief executive Vijay Shekhar Sharma’s revised employment agreement as the managing director and chief executive of the company.

Additionally, the company is formalising three appointments to the board of directors. These are Neeraj Arora, former chief business officer of WhatsApp and Ashit Ranjit Lilani, managing partner of Saama Capital, as non-executive independent directors; and Douglas Feagin, senior vice president, Ant Group, as a director.

The company has also put forth revised annual remuneration agreements for independent directors on the board for shareholders’ consideration. These include those of Mark Schwartz and Pallavi Shardul Shroff for Rs 1.85 crore and Ashit Ranjit Lilani and Neeraj Arora for Rs 1.48 crore.

ET has reviewed a copy of the letter.

In its previous EGM on July 12, the firm had passed several resolutions, including an IPO raise, and one declassifying Sharma as the promoter to list as a professionally managed company. Listing as a professionally run business could help smoothen Paytm’s IPO process as it reduces the compliance burden from investors and individuals that are considered promoters.

Paytm’s ESOP expansion comes at a time when several leading tech and internet startups have offered lucrative buyback windows to help employees vest their options. In 2021, startups such as Zerodha, Razorpay, Cred, Acko, Udaan have given their employees windows to cash their stock options as valuations of India’s internet startups continue to rise rapidly.

ESOPs are an employee benefit plan that gives the firm’s employees ownership in the company in the first of stock options. Among growth-stage startups, ESOP plans are seen as an effective way to attract, retain and reward workers in a highly competitive talent market.

Paytm in July had filed a draft red herring prospectus with the markets regulator, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi), to raise Rs 16,600 crore ($2.2 billion) through a public issue in what will be one of the biggest Indian IPOs in at least a decade.

Also Read: Paytm and the art of going public

The stock offering will comprise a fresh issue worth Rs 8,300 crore ($1.1 billion) and a secondary issue or an offer for sale (OFS) of the same size, Paytm has told Sebi. The company may also consider a pre-IPO funding round of up to Rs 2,000 crore. If that happens the size of the fresh issue will be adjusted accordingly, the DRHP says.

Upcoming IPOs in start-up ecosystem have high valuations, says India Quotient’s Gagan Goyal

[ad_1]

Read More/Less

Bharat-focused venture capital firm, India Quotient, has been an active investor in fintech start-ups, particularly in the lending space. Some of its portfolio companies include LendingKart, LoanTap, Pagarbook, Sharechat, and Sugar. LendingKart is a direct competitor to the SME (small and medium enterprises) lending vertical of fintech unicorns ($1 billion valuation), Paytm and MobiKwik. Both the billion-dollar valued companies have filed papers for public listings this year. BusinessLine spoke to India Quotient’s General Partner, Gagan Goyal, on how these two IPOs might impact SME lending start-ups in India and India Quotient’s fourth fund.

How do you think IPOs of Paytm and MobiKwik will impact the SME lending business?

In lending, the biggest raw material is the money that you loan to the end-user, and your ability to raise this capital for lending. From that perspective, the companies which are profitable are in a better position to source money at a very low cost. Typically, lending tech companies borrow from NBFCs or banks at a high cost of capital. But, once the company becomes profitable and opts for a public listing, it is possible for it to secure low-cost capital. Now, I cannot comment on whether Paytm and MobiKwik will be able to do that. But the chances are bright for companies like LendingKart to remain competitive.

Given that both MobiKwik and Paytm have an established network of SMEs, do they have an advantage over other existing SME lending companies in terms of low acquisition costs?

There are definitely advantages in terms of customer acquisition cost, but the game of lending is not about being able to acquire a customer. The crucial part of the lending business is to underwrite customers and determine if the company can give them a loan, as it’s a book-building business. People who are creditworthy have many options to get loans from multiple sources, they can go to the bank and ten other places. But in SME lending, companies have to find a customer who is creditworthy, and at the same time does not have a high CIBIL score. Someone whom they can underwrite and still expect to make money from by giving him a loan and recovering that. Paytm and MobiKwik have an advantage because they have a large base, but there are ten more things in lending which are more important.

Does that mean it is important to have low NPAs (non-performing assets) in SME lending?

You can run a high NPA business in lending too; banks typically have a 2 per cent NPA. I think it is about finding the right spot, between the borrowing cost of capital and lending interest rate so that one is able to recover the cash, cover operation costs and also make profits.

What is the update on India Quotient’s fourth fund?

Initially, in January, we aimed to raise $80 million for our fourth fund and we received a great response from domestic HNI capital. We were able to announce our first close at $64 million last month. Depending on the response we get from institutional investors, we might increase our target corpus from $80 million to $100 million. Till now, we have committed four deals from our fourth fund. We don’t usually invest in US copycat businesses because they are largely capital-driven. We look for ideas that are in the early stage and are backed by the unique market insights of the founder or their product-building ability because that is an important factor for building a successful business. The average ticket size of India Quotient’s investments is $250K to $1 million.

The Indian start-up ecosystem is looking at about five IPOs this year. Do you think these companies will be able to maintain their valuations in the public market?

I cannot exactly predict whether these companies will be able to maintain the valuations, but we all know that their current valuations are very high. There’s no doubt about it. People tend to see future value and so they are okay to pay a premium, but the real judgement will come when these companies get listed. I am also curious to see how that shapes up, but it is true that these companies are highly valued and they have to pass the test.

Inside BharatPe-Centrum proposed JV to acquire troubled PMC Bank, BFSI News, ET BFSI

[ad_1]

Read More/Less

BharatPe’s proposed joint venture with non-banking financial company Centrum Finance to set up a Small Finance Bank (SFB) that will acquire troubled Punjab and Maharashtra Co-operative (PMC) Bank is a landmark event for fintech players harbouring banking ambitions.

The deal, however, has not been easy to stitch up.

The story of how a startup has within three years partnered a 44-year-old NBFC led by veteran banker Jaspal Bindra to acquire a banking licence has more to it than meets the eye.

The idea behind this SFB is anything but conventional – considering BharatPe’s leadership dynamics to the Reserve Bank of India’s approach towards reviving a dying bank.

“As far as resolution plans go (for PMC Bank), this is a highly unusual one,” a senior banker at a private sector lender said. “While there is no set resolution framework to revive a dying bank, it is definitely a measure RBI has taken out of desperation rather than choice.”

Over the last two weeks, ET spoke to more than a dozen sources to make sense of the Centrum-BharatPe SFB.

We asked them what the central bank’s thinking was, how soon PMC Bank’s depositors could access their hard-earned deposits and what were the conditions that RBI had conveyed to stakeholders in private before giving approval to set up the SFB.

Special Exemption
The alleged Rs 6,500-crore fraud at PMC Bank is one where several regulatory and audit checks had been given the go-by over the last two decades.

The bank’s board had for many years allegedly concealed loan defaults by real estate firm Housing Development and Infrastructure Ltd (HDIL) of the Wadhawan Group.

Ultimately, the RBI had to step in to freeze depositors’ accounts last year. In light of this, the resolution plan has to be completed at the earliest since retail depositors’ withdrawal limits have been capped at Rs 50,000.

Even as the Centrum-BharatPe bid received its nod, the banking regulator has been at the forefront of drafting the resolution plan, which includes repaying depositors’ principal along with interest.

“The sense is that while a significant portion, or 45% of deposits less than Rs 5 lakh, will be returned as soon as the Deposit Insurance Scheme kicks in, the rest – amounting to deposits of nearly Rs 5,000 crore – will be converted into a low-yielding debt instrument, likely a 10-year bond,” a source privy to the plan told ET.

RBI has yet to finalise these though.

Ashneer Grover, the cofounder of BharatPe, said operationalisation of the SFB was still “3-4 months away.”

There are other deal riders not yet in the public domain.

These include the future structuring and listing propositions for the SFB, sources close to the company said.

The as-yet unnamed SFB will be a 50-50% partnership between BharatPe’s parent Resilient Innovations and Centrum Finance.

A typical NBFC converted to an SFB is given three years’ time after achieving a net worth of Rs 500 crore before its mandatory Initial Public Offering (IPO). The proposed JV has been provided a special exemption to go in for an IPO in six years.

Second, Centrum and BharatPe must also reduce their combined shareholding to less than 50% from the current 100%.

RBI has sought that the process be completed in eight years.

While Centrum can hold 40% stake, Resilient Innovations has been told to cut its stake to a maximum of 10%.

This effectively means that BharatPe will lose majority ownership of the banking venture by 2030.

The SFB will also not be allowed to offer housing loans or microcredit until Centrum Group is able to hive off its own housing finance and microfinance arms.

Both the owners had agreed to these conditions before RBI gave the in-principle approval.

A merchant-focussed bank
According to sources, the bank will be positioned as “India’s first merchant-focused bank.”“BharatPe is planning on building a lot of its offerings around merchant-focused credit and savings products,” a person directly aware of the matter said.

According to sources, the SFB is likely to offer loans to small and medium enterprises as well as unsecured retail loans lower than Rs 50,000.

BharatPe is likely to take the lead in acquiring merchants and providing technology support to the banking entity, while Centrum will handle financials and compliances.

BharatPe will not transfer its existing merchant base of around six million small vendors to the new SFB as most are with its existing banking partners, ICICI Bank and Yes Bank. These merchants could, however, be a base for cross selling its loan products.

The firm is also expected to retain its autonomous identity as a payment-focused fintech.

The SFB could also leverage BharatPe’s digital payment capabilities while building out new products, just like the operational structure currently followed by fintech unicorn Paytm and its Payments Bank entity.

“We will continue to operate as an independent entity,” Grover told ET. “For its payments business, BharatPe works with multiple banks (ICICI, Yes Bank) and will continue to do so. There are no plans to transition the existing base to the new SFB. We will work with the new SFB in areas where it adds value to our existing and to-be-acquired merchant base.”

Centrum Finance did not respond to ET’s queries.

The promoters of Centrum and BharatPe are expected to commit Rs 1,800 crore to the SFB, of which Rs 900 crore will be infused in the first year, Grover said. The remaining will be infused “when needed,” he added.

Next leg of growth?
Centrum Finance’s Bindra, a veteran banker and formerly head of Standard Chartered’s Asia unit, has reportedly been influential in getting RBI’s approval in the JV’s favour.

The banking foray by BharatPe – which has been working with Centrum Finance for the last three years – is expected to boost its next leg of growth for several reasons.

While there is an obvious opportunity to increase margins on loans through lowered cost of acquiring funds, there could be a greater purpose, sources said.

Payments companies no longer command the same valuation premiums as they did a few years back.

Competition from players such as Walmart, Google and Amazon mean that a company looking to build a profitable payment business will need to compete effectively with these tech giants – an endeavour where Paytm has also failed.

The differentiator is, therefore, in having a banking licence, which is not easy to get for companies outside India’s legacy banking ecosystem.

This not only increases the entry barrier to compete at the same scale but allows the company to expand its product portfolio significantly.

“What is happening here is BharatPe wants to emulate Paytm, but on steroids,” said an industry expert.

“As a banking entity where the entry barriers are high, BharatPe will bypass the competitive challenges it was set for several years before making a meaningful dent. It will now be a banking entity and have access to cheaper funds and the margins will be much higher. As a bank, you are destined to be profitable, and that for an Indian fintech is invaluable,” the expert said.

BharatPe is on the verge of closing a $350 million funding round led by Tiger Global, which will likely make it a unicorn, valuing it at around $2.8 billion, a person directly aware of the matter said.

Leadership changes
BharatPe has made at least six senior management hires in the last year. It expects to do the same this year as well.

Suhail Sameer was brought in last year as group president and has emerged as an influential voice within the company. He is expected to assume the role of ‘founder’. Sameer is also now positioned as the only other public face of the startup besides Grover.

Bhavik Koladiya and Shashvat Nakrani are the other cofounders of BharatPe.

Koladiya has largely been under the radar but sources aware of BharatPe’s origin said he has been hands-on as a founder from the beginning. In fact, Grover met Koladiya and firmed up plans to set up BharatPe and soon Nakrani joined as well, a person aware of the matter said.

Earlier this year, Guatam Kaushik joined BharatPe as group president, the second executive at this level after Sameer.

Kaushik was CEO of loyalty platform Payback India, which was acquired by BharatPe in June.

Sameer has been virtually leading all the funding talks and been a core part of strategic decision making at BharatPe.

“He has been actively involved in all the fundraising discussions with investors — for both equity and debt rounds. As the company moves to the next stage of its journey -especially with banking aspirations – it’s important to have senior experienced executives at the helm and that’s why Sameer has become critical to BharatPe’s strategic decision making,” a person aware of the thinking of the company and its investors said.

BharatPe also hired Parth Joshi as chief marketing officer in June.

While senior executives like Sameer and others strengthen its leadership team, sources said some of BharatPe’s investors have not been comfortable with Grover’s mercurial style of leadership.

Grover said this was not true.

“We have a strong leadership team of 14 people, including the founders. All of us are well established professionals in our respective domains and bring enormous credibility and expertise to BharatPe. We all have our role to play for the success of BharatPe. Suhail is a critical member of this leadership team, like others,” he said.

Grover’s public remarks on disputes with rivals like PhonePe have not helped in addressing these concerns, the sources added.

“Our investors are extremely supportive of BharatPe and what we have built in such a short span of time. Leadership hiring is done in sync with the business requirements,” Grover said.

One of the sources said: “Look, every founder has his way of doing things and not everyone will like it. Some have had concerns but that doesn’t dilute Grover’s position as a cofounder.”

BharatPe is also on the lookout for senior management roles in compliance, finance and legal departments to strengthen its entry into the world of banking.

“The other younger members of the founding team have done well but the need for more experienced hands was felt and thus they continue to beef up the senior positions,” one person said.

Paytm Money offers a new “pre-open IPO applications” feature in its platform

[ad_1]

Read More/Less

Paytm Money, a digital brokerage platform, has announced a new feature that allows users to apply for an IPO before its opening in the markets. Paytm Money is the first digital broker in India to offer this functionality, and expects it to significantly increase the participation of retail users in IPOs.

Zomato is the first IPO launched with this feature on Paytm Money, and thousands have already used it to place orders over the last two days.

Paytm Money opens technology development centre in Pune

A user can place an IPO order 24×7 on days when the “pre-open IPO application” feature is enabled. The order is recorded on Paytm Money’s system, and sent to the exchange for processing whenever the IPO opens. The user is continually notified of her application status, to ensure a seamless experience.

Varun Sridhar, CEO of Paytm Money, said in a statement: “Interest in IPOs has surged over the last couple of months, and we have seen cases where users have missed out from applying because of issues like tight schedules during market hours, and demand-led processing delays in the markets. We wanted to make the lives of our users easier and ensure that they don’t miss out on good opportunities.”

A conventional IPO application process is designed around timings and is seen as restrictive

, as users are able to apply only during select market hours over a window of three days. A large proportion of the investing community does not trade actively, and is likely to miss out on some of these IPOs. This is particularly true of millennials and young investors. The pre-IPO application feature is meant for such investors.

Paytm launches ‘Wealth Community’ for young investors

There is also the issue of congestion in servers/networks during popular IPOs, due to high demand during a short time span. As the feature gains traction, it might be possible to spread out the pre-open ipo applications evenly during market hours, reducing the load on exchanges and payment gateways, and ensuring a better experience for market participants, a company statement added.

Paytm Money has also launched a few other advanced features to offer a comprehensive IPO application experience to its users, who can now complete IPO applications with a single click, apply via the shareholder category, and track live IPO subscription numbers.
