Son said that he had made a commitment to Prime Minister Narendra Modi that he would invest $5 billion in India, but in the last ten years, Softbank has already invested $14 billion. This year alone it has invested $3 billion.

“We are providers of about 10% of the funding to all unicorns in India,” Son said.

SoftBank’s investments in India include those in Flipkart, Paytm, Swiggy, Zeta, among others. “I believe in the future of India. I believe in the passion of young entrepreneurs in India. I tell the young people in India—let’s make it happen, I will support,” he said.

This Diwali, if a customer of State Bank of India (SBI) applies for a car loan through YONO app, then they can get an interest rate concession of up to 0.5%, with zero processing fees, the bank said in a tweet.

Customers can get cash back offers up to Rs 2,500 on every purchase on e-commerce sites such as Flipkart and Amazon. Besides, one can get instant loan approval now.

The bank is offering car loans from 7.25%, gold loans from 7.50%, personal loans from 9.60%.

Additionally, the home loan offer which was started in September is still there. SBI currently offers home loans at only 6.7% for any amount and any tenure without any processing fees.

ICICI Bank- #FestiveBonanza

ICICI Bank launched ‘Festive Bonanza’ with a complete range of offers, heavy discounts and cash back available on a range of products, including luxury items from premium brands and leading e-commerce platforms.

As part of the ‘Festive Bonanza’, the bank is offering up to 20% cash back and discount on every purchase on Amazon, Myntra, Flipkart, Jiomart, Reliance Digital, among other platforms.

Besides, benefits are there for retail and business customers on various banking products and services such as home loan, car loan, overdraft facility and others.

HDFC Bank- #FestiveTreats

HDFC bank has partnered with over 10,000 merchants across more than 100 locations to offer special deals specifically created for their personal and business needs in this Diwali time.

Benefits offered to customers include cash backs and no-cost EMIs on premium mobile phones, up to 22.5% cash back and no-cost EMI on electronics and consumer goods such as washing machines and refrigerators on shopping platform Amazon by using HDFC Bank’s credit and debit cards.

Personal loans starting at 10.25% interest with instant disbursal in account are also there. Customers can avail car loans starting at 7.50% with zero foreclosure charges and funding of up to 100% on two-wheeler loans and 4% less on interest rates, the bank said

Bank of India has announced a 35 basis-point cut in its home loan interest rates and 50 basis-point reduction in vehicle loan interest rates. The minimum rate now starts at 6.50% against 6.85% on home loans and 6.85% against 7.35% earlier on vehicle loans.

This special rate, which was effective from October 18 till December 31, is available for customers applying for fresh loans, and for those seeking transfer of loans. Processing charges have also been waived for both the loans till 2022.

Axis Bank- #DilSeOpenCelebrations

Axis Bank is offering waivers of 12 EMIs on select home loan products in this festive season and providing on-road finance without any processing fees for two-wheelers customers.

To boost local retailers during this season, Axis Bank has roped in more than 2,500 local stores across 50 cities. The bank customers will get discounts up to 20% on shopping from these stores. Besides, one can get 10% or more cash back when purchasing on popular e-commerce platforms such as Flipkart and Amazon.

Bank of Baroda also extended Diwali offers. This bank has slashed interest rates on both home car loans that start from 6.5% and 7% respectively. Processing charges are also waived for both the loans.

Home Credit India, a local arm of the international consumer finance provider, has launched its festive campaign #UjjwalKaroFestival, and customers can avail cashback offers from their EMI cards.

Customers can buy products on Flipkart, Myntra, Makemytrip, Titan and other online platforms on EMIs with Home Credit Ujjwal (EMI) Card and get a cashback through Flexmoney upto Rs. 3000 on their purchases. They can avail offers while shopping at Home Credit partner stores as well.

The offer is valid on both online and offline platforms with products across consumer durables, like fashion, travel, jewellery etc.

Vivek Kumar Sinha, chief marketing officer at Home Credit India, said; “We have observed a huge change in consumer buying habits over these last two years with brands investing in partnerships to boost up the festive spirit.”

Axis Bank bets big on merchant acquiring

Private sector lender Axis Bank has outlined an ambitious strategy for merchant acquisition and onboarding and has begun small ticket lending to them.

Axis Bank is now the third-largest point of sale (PoS) acquiring bank in the payments acceptance business in the country with an installed base of 7.09 lakh PoS devices. The bank processes around ₹20,000 crore of volumes per month as on August 31, 2021. Sanjeev Moghe, EVP and Head, Cards and Payments, Axis Bank said the bank has about 15 per cent market share in terminals and expects it to grow further. “Every terminal comes with a current account for the merchant and that means that at some ratio, we can lend to the merchant,” he said in an interaction with BusinessLine.

While, earlier the bank focussed on lending above a particular ticket size to merchants, it has now started giving smaller ticket loans as improved data has reduced the cost of lending. “We have a lot of partnerships on the issuing side such as the co-branded card with Flipkart. On the acquiring side, we are growing our business organically as well as through partnerships,” said Moghe. The bank has now partnered with BharatPe for installing PoS devices and also has tie-ups with Bijlipay and PineLabs, he further said.

The bank also has acquiring partnerships with several e-commerce and consumer-facing platforms such as Amazon, Google Pay for Business, CRED, PhonePe, Razorpay, PayU, Zerodha, Swiggy, Freecharge, Dream11, BigBasket, Uber and Ola.

Flipkart co-branded card

Axis Bank has now moved its popular Flipkart co-branded card to Visa after the Reserve Bank of India barred Mastercard from onboarding new customers on its domestic card network. The card continues to do well, Moghe said, adding that on a temporary basis, the bank has launched a free-for-life offer for the months of September and October. “This offer has given a very big upside. It has nothing to do with the payment platform,” he said.

New Delhi, Sep 18 (PTI) Flipkart Wholesale, the digital B2B marketplace of Flipkart Group, on Saturday said it has partnered with SME lending platform Davinta to offer a ‘Buy Now Pay Later‘ (BNPL) credit facility to its retailers. Flipkart Wholesale Senior Vice-President and Head Adarsh Menon said access to affordable and transparent credit is one challenge the company aims to solve.

“Partnering with Davinta will give members on our platform access to credit with a single click. The experience for the retailers is seamless and completely digital and was only possible because both our organizations take a technology-first approach,” he said in a statement.

As this partnership is strengthened, this construct will allow more and more of Flipkart Wholesale’s Kirana and MSMEs members to enjoy the benefit of accessible and affordable credit in the pursuit of their growth on the platform, he added.

‘Buy Now Pay Later’ or BNPL has emerged as a credit innovation from new-age fintechs, who are offering this as an alternative to customers who struggle to be eligible for traditional credit constructs such as credit cards.

With more than 6 crore small businesses in India, a majority of whom struggle to get access to traditional credit, BNPL offers a massive opportunity to drive financial inclusion and provide the much needed affordable credit access to these small business owners.

If you are a State Bank of India (SBI) debit card holder, then you have the option of making big-ticket purchases via EMI. As per the bank’s press release, “SBI offers EMI facility for its customers using SBI debit card in order to purchase consumer durables from merchant stores by swiping their cards at POS (Point of sale). They can also avail this facility while buying online via e-commerce portals such as Amazon & Flipkart through SBI debit card.”

Eligibility
Before availing the EMI facility, customers must confirm the amount they are eligible to claim. This can be checked by sending SMS from the mobile number that is registered with the bank.

The SMS must be sent in the following format: DCEMI to 567676 from the registered mobile no. with the bank.

Steps for availing EMI facility with SBI debit card
Here’s how SBI debit card holders can avail EMI via debit card.

If the debit card EMI is being availed at merchant store:
a. Swipe SBI Debit Card on POS Machine at merchant store
b. Select > Brand EMI > Bank EMI
c. Enter > Amount > Repayment tenor
d. Enter PIN and press OK after the POS machine has checked the eligibility
e. Loan amount is booked after successful transaction
f. Charge slip containing Terms & Conditions of Loan is printed and the customer has to sign on the same

If the EMI is being availed for purchases made on an e-commerce website:
a. Login on Amazon or Flipkart from the mobile no. registered with the bank
b. Select the required brand, article and proceed for payment
c. Select the Easy EMI option from different payment options that appear and then select SBI
d. The amount is auto fetched, enter the tenor and click on proceed
e. SBI Login page appears, enter the internet banking or Debit Card credentials
f. Loan is booked, terms & conditions (T&C) are displayed, if accepted, the order is booked

Loan amount and interest rate:
As per the bank, customers can avail of the loan ranging from Rs. 8,000 to Rs. 1 lakh at an effective interest rate of 2-year MCLR + 7.50% which is 14.70% currently. The loan is available with flexible tenure options of 6/9/12/18 months.

Other benefits:
As per the bank’s press release, there are several other benefits offered on making an EMI purchase via an SBI debit card. These are as follows:

  • Zero processing fee
  • Zero documentation & instant disbursal
  • No blocking of Savings account balance
  • A Standing Instruction equivalent to the monthly instalment amount will be set up on customers’ savings bank account automatically upon availing this facility.

What e-commerce co-branded credit cards offer

If Covid-19 and the ensuing lockdowns have got you habituated to purchasing your essentials only online, there are specialised credit cards that can come handy. A few banks are issuing credit cards in partnership with popular e-commerce companies to attract more consumers especially in the post pandemic contactless world. The Amazon Pay ICICI Bank Credit Card and the Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card are two such cards. These credit cards offer rewards on your online purchases in the form of cashbacks, discounts and reward points. E-commerce websites also provide extra offers to such cardholders on their select purchases. These are over and above the existing discounts, cashbacks, and reward points.

While your affinity to a select e-commerce platform might be a key criterion in deciding the credit card to opt for, there are also other parameters to consider. Here is a lowdown on a few of them.

Enrolment, fees

A registered Amazon Pay user, despite not being an existing customer of ICICI Bank, can easily apply for an ICICI Bank co-branded credit card entirely online using the video KYC facility. They can do so either on the bank’s website or mobile application or through the Amazon.in website or mobile app.

However, for a Flipkart Axis Bank credit card, you must have a current or saving account with Axis Bank apart from being a registered Flipkart user. That apart, the Axis Bank credit card also entails a joining fee of ₹500, while the Amazon Pay ICICI Bank Credit Card is free of cost.

The Amazon pay ICICI Bank card is a free lifetime credit card with no joining or annual fees whereas the Flipkart Axis Bank credit card charges an annual fee of ₹500 after the first year. This is, however waived if the annual spends on the card exceed ₹2 lakh.

On the amount overdue, while ICICI Bank charges an interest of 42-45.6 per cent depending on customer profile, Axis Bank charges 49.36 per cent per annum for amounts overdue on retail purchases and cash transactions. See the table for a comparison on other charges.

 

Benefits offered

The Flipkart Axis Bank credit card comes with a host of welcome benefits such as free vouchers, discounts and cashbacks on the first card transaction on Flipkart, Myntra, etc. and a free 15-month subscription to Gaana. There are no such benefits on enrolment in the case of the ICICI Bank credit card.

On the ICICI Bank card, customers earn 3 per cent reward points on card spends on Amazon (5 per cent for Amazon Prime users). Besides, one can earn 2 per cent reward points for spends on digital categories on Amazon.in such as bill payments, recharges, travel and movie bookings, and for payments to other Amazon Pay merchants such as Swiggy, Bookmyshow, and Yatra. For spends on any merchant location in the country where Visa cards are accepted, the card fetches you 1 per cent reward points.

Besides, the bank offers benefits mostly in the form of reward points. Each reward point is equal to one rupee and the reward earnings are credited directly to the Amazon pay monthly balance after the billing cycle.

The Axis bank card offers cashbacks that are directly credited in the credit card statement in the next billing cycle. The bank offers cashbacks such as 5 per cent of the spends on Flipkart, Myntra and 2GUD. On spends on other preferred merchants such as Swiggy, PVR and Uber, the bank offers 4 per cent cashback. On all other categories of merchant spends, the bank offers 1.5 per cent cashback.

While the ICICI Bank credit card offers 2 per cent reward points when you add money to your Amazon pay wallet, the Axis Bank card does not offer cashbacks for wallet loading transactions.

Fuel surcharge waiver

The banks also offer their existing customers other benefits such as discounts on dining in select restaurants. Besides, the Axis Bank credit card also gives its customers four free lounge accesses in select domestic airports every calendar year.

Both banks do not offer rewards points and cashbacks on fuel, EMI transactions (including purchases converted into EMI later) and gold purchases. However, the banks offer waivers on fuel surcharge – 1 per cent in the case of the Axis Bank credit card for transactions in the range of ₹400- 4,000 up to a maximum of ₹500 per month. In the case of the ICICI Bank credit card, only the existing bank customers get a waiver of 1 per cent on fuel surcharge payments on spends using the bank’s Amazon pay co-branded credit card.

Flipkart, India’s homegrown e-commerce marketplace, plans to expand its Flipkart Pay Later credit offering, targeting a 2x growth over the next six months. Currently, there are over 2.8 million customers who have adopted Flipkart Pay Later and have made more than 42 million transactions on the platform to date.

Owing to the growing reliance on digital payments, Flipkart Pay Later has seen a 70% adoption rate among customers at the time of check-out and plans to cross the 100 million transaction benchmark by the end of the year.

As digital adoption continues to increase across the country and customers seek value-driven credit options, Flipkart Pay Later has seen an increase of over 50% in the number of registered users as of July 21 in comparison to the previous year. Customers have used the offering mainly for purchases across categories of beauty and general merchandise, home and lifestyle. In fact, in categories such as lifestyle, Flipkart Pay Later has exceeded the credit card transactions, making it the top prepaid instrument used by consumers for the category.

“As a homegrown platform, enabling accessibility and affordability for customers is at the heart of all our offerings. The success of Flipkart Pay Later so far has shown the benefits that the construct is able to provide to millions of customers and made us confident of its market-readiness for a much wider adoption – both on and outside Flipkart Group’s platforms.” said Ranjith Boyanapalli, Head – Fintech and Payments Group at Flipkart.

As the Covid wave ebbs and consumers step out for shopping online, banks are looking to grab a pie of their purchases.

Banks are setting up virtual marketplaces in their apps and tying up with e-commerce sites to facilitate and promote sales.

Private lender Axis Bank has an online marketplace called Grab Deals that offers exclusive deals for debit and credit cardholders.

The bank gave its debit and credit cardholders a flat 15 per cent cashback on partner e-commerce portals like Flipkart and Amazon as part of the ten-day ‘Grab Deals Fest’ which ended on July 4. The bank saw 10X surge in volumes during the festival.

The discounts are shared between the bank and the e-commerce major, and the bank does not want to do big bang shopping festivals and will continue with such deals regularly.

Axis festival

Axis Bank witnessed a jump in ordering from urban areas where e-commerce ordering is active and said that the ordering is across income segments. The products ordered can largely be called discretionary items.

Axis Bank launched the offer because it thought that the second wave is now receding and people are coming out of stressful times. The lender’s main focus was making as many customers avail of the offer rather than look at the GMV. , It aims to deepen the connect with customers through such schemes.

Kotak Mahindra Bank app’s KayMall section directs customers to magazine subscriptions, travel and hotel bookings, e-commerce websites for grocery, fashion, appliances and electronics.

Why are banks doing it?

The second wave of the Covid pandemic has hit demand across the economy, with many analysts saying that private consumption has fallen in such a way that even staples have been hit. Even as the lockdown measures get eased, analysts say demand will take time to revive as income generation needs to come back first.

Usually, a lot of the e-commerce sales activity happens around festive season towards the end of the year, and there are reports saying the e-commerce players are expecting a subdued activity this year.
