Yes Bank has proposed to set up an asset reconstruction company (ARC) and invited interest from prospective investors to be a part of the company as the lead investor. The prospective investor should have a strong financial capability and should have substantial experience in the distressed asset space, Ernst & Young (EY) said in an expression of interest (EOI) floated on behalf of Yes Bank.

“The prospective investor would be the lead partner/sponsor of the ARC, with the bank as the other significant partner/sponsor, for conducting the business of asset reconstruction,” as per the EOI.

EY is the process advisor to Yes Bank for floating the ARC.

The bank said the interested investor(s) or their sponsors should have a minimum asset under management (AUM) and fund deployed, globally, of at least USD 5 billion (over Rs 37,186 crore) in the immediately preceding completed financial year.

The interested investors can submit their EOIs by 5 pm on August 31, 2021, by sending an email to projectmodak@in.ey.com.

Foreign institutional investors, foreign portfolio investors, private equity, venture capital funds, FIIs, NBFCs, asset management companies, banks and ARCs can take part to be a lead sponsor of Yes Bank’s proposed asset reconstruction company.

Cryptocurrency startup CoinSwitch Kuber has appointed Sarmad Nazki as its chief financial officer (CFO). The company’s chief executive officer (CEO) Ashish Singhal said that the company planned to add about a hundred and fifty new staff to its rolls in another six months’ time.

Nazki, the new CFO, was previously with mobility startup Bounce. He has also worked at Ola, Ernst & Young (EY) and KPMG earlier.

CoinSwitch Kuber is a cryptocurrency investment platform that lets users buy, sell and trade crypto coins like Bitcoin, Ethereum and Litecoin. The company claims to have 7.5 million users.

Singhal said that the company was also looking to fill in key senior leadership roles such as chief information security officer, chief legal officer and vice-presidents in data science, product and tech.

Singhal said that he would want staff to come to work for at least six months once things normalise so that they could build a better rapport with each other. “We have grown from a team of 20 to 120 in the pandemic.” he said. Once the team got to know each other, Singhal said that the employees could work remotely.

CoinSwitch Kuber in April this year raised $25mn from Tiger Global Management at a valuation of over $500mn, according to reports.

The company in May this year had hired Zeeshan Ramlan as director and head of human resources.

Srei Equipment Finance Ltd (SEFL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Srei Infrastructure Finance Ltd, on Friday said that it has received a term sheet from Makara Capital Partners Pte. Ltd, Singapore, indicating interest for an estimated investment of around ₹2,200 crore.

The investment will be through subscription to equity shares and other securities of the company subject to the terms and conditions in the said term sheet, the company said in a notification to stock exchanges on Friday.

“This is to inform that the Strategic Coordination Committee (SCC) has received a Term Sheet from Makar), Singapore indicating interest for investment of an aggregate amount of ₹2,200 crores by subscription to equity shares and other securities of the company subject to the terms and conditions contained in the said Term Sheet. The SCC chaired by an independent director, will evaluate the said offer and make the recommendation to the Board of the company,” it said.

SEFL had earlier in April this year received an expression of interest (EoI) for capital infusion from Cerberus Global Investments B.V. It had also received expression of interest for up to $250 million (approx ₹1,865 crore) capital infusion from international private equity funds including US-based Arena Investors LP and Singapore’s Makara Capital Partners.

Infusion to provide cushion

The SCC has been running an independent process for investments in SEFL and many large players have evinced interest. The proposed capital infusion, which is being carried out in parallel to the company’s debt realignment plan, is expected to provide cushion against the pandemic induced stress in the Indian financial services space, the company had said.

Ernst & Young is advising the SCC on the fundraising exercise.

Meanwhile, Srei Infrastructure Finance Ltd had, in April this year, appointed KPMG Assurance and Consulting Services LLP and DmKH & Co. as forensic auditors for its proposed debt restructuring plan.

Kolkata-headquartered Srei group has a total debt outstanding of nearly ₹27,000 crore which includes ₹18,000 crore outstanding to as many as 15 lenders including SBI, Axis Bank and UCO Bank among others. The company has been facing cash flows issues in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic-driven economic stress.
