Thiruvananthapuram, Ahead of the three-day strike from October 20 called by the employees of the CSB bank, Kerala Finance Minister K N Balagopal on Monday held discussions with the bank’s Managing Director C V Rajendran. The CSB employees have planned to go on strike from October 20-22 and in support of this stir, all Bank employees in the state have planned a one-day strike on October 22.

The meeting was attended by Finance Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh also.

The MD has agreed to hold a discussion with the United Forum of CSB bank unions today itself, the Finance Minister’s office said in a release.

CSB Bank aims at branch expansion of 30%, BFSI News, ET BFSI

Private lender CSB Bank has outlined its plan to strengthen its branch expansion rate to 30% on a yearly basis, after scoping out the expansion of 101 branches during the FY21 fiscal. The movement followers the lender also developing its own application, named “CSB Wink”, that enables customers to open accounts instantly and remotely.

Narendra Dixit, Retail Head of CSB Bank, said “We are increasing our pan India distribution, which will complement our significant distribution strength in Kerala and South and help us in offering seamless services across the country to our valued customers.“

“We have significant distribution in deeper geography and now, we are leveraging that to build a strong agri and financial inclusion model in these markets. Also, in order to enhance our existing retail and franchise offerings, we have created digital on-boarding facilities, via CSB Wink that offers digital account opening, e-wallet facilities, online FD services, virtual debit cards and will aid in higher deposit centers to provide an evenly distributed footprint,“ he further added.

CSB Bank has 474 branches and 309 ATMs spread across 18 states and two UTs. The lender said the expansion of its branches would allow the expansion of offerings including Agriculture, SME, Corporate and NRI Banking services to customers, in an efficient manner.

Kerala bank employees’ union oppose CSB’s plan to offer VRS to award employees

The All Kerala Bank Employees’ Federation (AKBEF) has opposed CSB Bank’s plan to offer voluntary retirement scheme (VRS) to award staff.

The Board of the Thrissur- headquartered CSB Bank had approved the roll-out of VRS on January 19.

CD Josson, General Secretary, AKBEF, said that bringing exit-option for award staff was most inappropriate when the the bank needs to expand its services utilising the experience, expertise and local roots of the employees.

If the management’s plan was to replace permanent employees with contract and cost-to-company mode employees, that would be regressive and anti-labour, he alleged.

KS Krishna, Joint Secretary, All India Bank Employees’ Association, said at a time when the the government and private sector institutions should be ensuring stable employment, it is most intriguing that CSB Bank is going ahead with VRS in the current pandemic situation, even after it has announced better third quarter (October-December 2020) results.

CVR Rajendran, MD and CEO, CSB Bank, said that 223 employees are eligible for VRS and if all these employees opt for the scheme, the outgo for the bank will be around ₹80 crore.

Eligibility

As per the bank’s regulatory filing, VRS will be offered to the eligible award staff, who have completed 50 years of age and have a minimum of 10 years of service with the Bank. The scheme will be effective from January 25, 2021, for such period, as specified in the scheme.

The implementation of the scheme will be beneficial to the bank in the long run, both in terms of financial and customer service point of view, said CSB Bank in the filing.

Rajendran said the average annual salary of the award staff is about ₹11-12 lakh.
